Recently, I heard someone speaking about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his “I Have a Dream” speech during the Poor People’s March on Washington on August 28, 1963. What a prophetic voice.
One-quarter of a million people were there to hear it, gathered together on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
As Dr. King started his speech, Mahalia Jackson turned toward him and said, “Tell them about the Dream, Martin, Tell them about the Dream.”
Martin pushed his prepared speech aside and let the Holy Spirit take over. He spoke from the heart, and God filled that heart with his power and with the kind of words people never forget—the kind of words that shape the course of history.
Dr. King delivered America’s prophecy through his “I have a Dream” speech. But this kind of thing isn’t limited to the heroes of history.
God wants to speak through all of us. He wants to use us to change this world for the better.
